In biology we learned about adaptive radiation and evolution. For this project we had to do research on a specie (Akiapola'au) that went through adaptive radiation. We had to write in 1st person as if we were the bird. We had to answer questions like:
What do you eat?
Where is your habitat?
How has it changed over the years?
How many of your species are left and where?
What could help your kid survive and flourish?
Those questions were an introduction to the specie. Then we got more into the ancestral part. Talking about the concept of pilina and recent finding about which bird is thought to be the ancestor of all Hawaiian honeycreepers.Once we got all the information we had to create a newsletter that included pictures and a phylogenic tree.
The 21st century skills in this project is information skills and communication skills. Information skills were used during most of this project because I had to learn about my specie and it's ancestry. Communication skills were used when I presented my final newsletter to my class.
