Socratic Seminar is a discussion activity done with one third of the class. Each student needs to come up with one educational claim and one controversial claim. Students will then have eight minutes each round to discuss their claims. The goal within this time is to talk the entire round, making sure every student in the circle is talking.
Communication skills is the main focus on this activity. Students listen and discuss their opinions with each other. Self-Directional and Informational skills were used to prepare for the Socratic Seminar. I spent a lot of time researching for claims that I knew could bring conversation. My first claim was “Humans need(ed) to gossip to survive”. My second claim was “If you’re past the life expectancy, you shouldn;t be able to vote”.
I proud of the claims that were discussed majority of the time. I feel like it gave a chance for everyone to speak because agreeing or disagreeing has valid points. However, I wish I did more research to back myself up on the claims, especially about the humans. |
